The Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem is the Catholic episcopal see of Jerusalem, established in 1099, officially seated in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
Today, the Latin Patriarchate includes about 60 parishes, around 40 schools and more than 150,000 faithful, in Jordan, Palestine, Israel and Cyprus. The Equestrian Order provides a significant amount of the funding of the Patriarchate, with most of the aid focused on parish and school life, humanitarian aid, and to a lesser extent, restoration and construction projects. The global amount of aid sent by the Equestrian Order to the Holy Land is more than 10 million Euros each year
On 24 June 2016 Pope Francis appointed then Bishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa as the apostolic administrator sede vacant of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem and appointed him as titular Archbishop of Verbe. On 24 October 2020, Pizzaballa was appointed Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem by Pope Francis. He leads the board of directors of Caritas Jerusalem.

The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem is the only lay institution of the Vatican State charged with the task of providing for the needs of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem and of all the activities and initiatives to support the Christian presence in the Holy Land. The contributions made by its members are therefore the Patriarchal institutions’ main source of funding.
The war in Israel has created a humanitarian crisis for many; especially for the Palestinian Christians cared for by the Latin Patriachate and supported by the Order. There currently is not active appeal or fund raiser for this concern. As we anticipate a new appeal look for that information on this page.
